Greetings everyone and welcome to Ms. Duffus’s science page! This will be your link to the world of science exploration in sixth and seventh grade. In teaching sixth and seventh grade science, I hope to stimulate in my students an interest in, curiosity about, and enthusiasm for science learning by promoting a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around them and ever growing urge toward the stewardship of that world. Students are provided numerous opportunities to develop skills in the areas of observation, inquiry, experimentation, and interpretation and are encouraged to think for themselves and develop confidence as problem-solvers. Through independent research projects and cooperative lab activities they are encouraged to approach their work with attitudes of open-mindedness and objectivity in exploring ideas and issues. During presentations, students build competence in expressing ideas and opinions to others. Finally, throughout the curriculum I attempt to cultivate connections between what students do in science and what goes on in their lives. Students participate in hands-on activities, weekly labs, field trips and short and long-term research projects. Read more about the variety of topics explored in each grade in the links above.
